“God’s Lament”
Disappointment is not only an emotion that we experience, but God also expresses disappointment. A shattered relationship breaks our hearts. An expected job promotion that is given to someone else can cause us heartache. A child raised in godliness, only to turn away from the Lord, can be a grief beyond words. In this passage, God expresses His grief regarding Israel.
I. God’s Lament –
A. His children Israel
1. Were given a garden spot in the land flowing with milk and honey –
2. His children despised their heritage
B. Like a wife
1. Who betrays her husband
2. Is treacherous, ungrateful, and deceitful –
II. Grief –
A. Weeping –
1. Silent screams of desperation
2. Demanding God to act to rescue them
B. God’s invitation - Return
1. I will heal your backslidings –
2. God’s invitation –
– Come, follow Me
– If anyone thirsts
– Come to Me for rest
– Come into the joy of the Lord
C. They say they will come –
1. Do not worship the created world but the Creator – ;
2. Shame –
3. Sin describes our youth –
III. Repentance Unto Life –
A. Returning –
1. Means putting away idols
2. United heart needed for repentance –
B. A tender heart is evidence of repentance –
1. Break up your hard ground –
2. Do not sow among thorns –
C. The result will be blessing to the nations –
D. Judgment still is a possibility –
Jesus Christ died for us to be righteous –
He will be satisfied in you - ;
